1. School Choice – finding legislative solutions to increase power to parents to choose the type of education options available for their own children. I’m convinced that we can find solutions that increase choice and increase the productivity of government schools and public school teachers. My vision is that since the UEA backed repeal of our comprehensive voucher program, we can work to expand the little known, but already in place, and highly successful Utah voucher system. We can work to expand the online alternatives recently enacted and we can also pursue tuition portability (great ideas last night at the cottage meeting by the way) and other creative solutions to push choice in education and increase performance of existing school options.

A friend of mine sent me a supportive message about my campaign a few days ago.  “Well behaved women rarely make history.”  I like the sentiment.  But, in Utah, women – well behaved or not – don’t make it into politics.  Of course there are exceptions, thankfully.  But with the tradition of being the first state in the union to give women the legal right to vote, Utah has the fewest women elected to the state legislature.  For republican women, the problem is even more pronounced.
